Jenkins Elementary School Parents and Guardians,
Please be advised that Jenkins Elementary School routinely conducts various safety and emergency drills to provide students and staff an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, because the safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority.
A Lockdown Drill is scheduled for tomorrow morning (Monday, August 24, 2026).
The term "Lockdown" is used when there is an imminent threat inside or nearby the school building that requires immediate protective action, such as an active shooter on campus.
During a lockdown, all doors are locked immediately and all the lights are turned off. In addition, students and staff hide while everyone remains quiet. No one is allowed to enter or exit the building while the lockdown is in place.
Schools are sometimes placed in precautionary "Lockout" if the campus is notified of an external incident, such as a police search for a burglary suspect in the area. Students are moved indoors and schools are able to go about their normal academic schedule; however, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building while the lockout is in place.
The goal of the drill is to improve our ability to respond in the event of a real emergency and allow us to evaluate our emergency operations plan under the Standard Response Protocol.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the campus at 281-891-8300.
Sincerely,
Wesley Vaughan
